Part of Our Community
At the heart of our business plan is a passion for supporting and giving back to our community. Here are a few of our ongoing efforts.
Share the Warmth
For over 25 years, we have been collecting outerwear to help keep our community warm. Every October, customers are encouraged to bring in used winter coats and/or snow pants for adults or children. For each item donated, a $50 coupon is given that can be used to purchase any regular priced outerwear item worth $250 or more. We partner with the Gold Rush Inn to clean the garments and with the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition to distribute them to those in need. Over the years more than 3,000 jackets and counting have been distributed.
The Home Project
Yukon is home, even for many who now live outside of the Territory. Our Home line includes T-shirts, hoodies, toques, hats, mugs and a “Home Brew” coffee by Bean North. All proceeds go to Safe at Home, Yukon’s plan to end and prevent homelessness. For more information, visit the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition’s website: www.yapc.ca
To date, we have donated over $35,000 to help end homelessness.
Free Day on the Trails
Every winter we host a free day of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing with Fischer, MSR, the Whitehorse Cross Country Ski Club and local ski schools. Passes, rentals, lessons and guided snowshoe tours are all free, and so are the hot chocolate and cookies.
Donations
We give hundreds of items a year to community efforts related to health, well-being, sports and the outdoors. From items for our shelters to volunteer gifts to auction items, we are proud supporters of our wonderful Yukon community.
Salmon Research
Working with the Patagonia Environmental Fund, we helped raise over $10,000 to study the Ibex watershed and its salmon. The study is run with Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Fisheries & Oceans Canada, the Yukon River Panel and the Yukon Fish & Game Association. (Photo: Peter Mather)

LEED Certified Building
In 2008, Coast Mountain Sports opened in its current location in the Taku Building. The Taku is Yukon’s only LEED certified commercial building. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy Efficient Design. It is an internationally recognized standard of green building that sets standards for design, construction, operation and maintenance. Our goal: to be environmentally responsible and to use resources efficiently.

Building Our North
We’re active members of the Canadian, Yukon and Whitehorse Chambers of Commerce and the Buy Yukon initiative. One of our owners spent 10 years on the board of the Canadian Chamber, bringing a Northern voice to the national table. We also sit on committees that support local artists, tourism, conservation and ending homelessness.
We are so proud to be active members of our wonderful Yukon community. We strive continuously to support and to give back.
